Visit to the converter station of Santa Ponça

Informative sessions on energy

Red Eléctrica contributes to the dissemination of knowledge regarding the functioning of the electricity system by encouraging participation in conferences and training/informative sessions.

On 14 July 2020 the chairwoman, Beatriz Corredor, and the Chief Executive Officer, Roberto Merino, visited the Red Eléctrica installations in Mallorca.

The activity consisted in visiting the Santa Ponça Converter Station and the 132kV switchyard, both of which are entrance points for the electricity links with the Peninsula, Balearic Islands, Ibiza and Mallorca.

The management team also visited the Balearic Islands’ Electricity Control Centre (CECOIB) which supervises the electricity grid in coordination with the control centres of the island’s generation and distribution companies and monitors the electricity system in real time, carrying out the planning to meet demand and managing any deviation between generation and demand in real time. It also oversees and studies all work carried out on the islands’ transmission grid.
