The Golden Eagle is one of the most endangered species of Galicia, there are signs that point to a historical regression. Therefore, for many years Red Eléctrica, along with the Regional Ministry of Rural Affairs of the Government of Galicia, has been participating on a project to boost the population of this species in collaboration with GREFA.

On January 29th, 1985, Red Eléctrica de España was born - the first company in the world exclusively involved in electricity system operation and transport.

Video of mapping of bird flight paths and corridors, one geographic information system that integrates data from bird flight corridors (areas of presence and routes) sensitive to the presence of high-voltage electricity lines, improving the prevention of impacts on birdlife during the planning and execution phases of projects and allows prioritisation of mitigation actions.

Red Eléctrica is collaborating in an inspiring project to reintroduce the black vulture in the Pyrenees, where the species is attempting to re-establish its former area of distribution. A new colony has now settled midway between black vulture populations in France and the Iberian Peninsula.

Red Eléctrica collaborates on this project supporting the organisations and people involved, who work tirelessly in an attempt to see this species flying over our countryside again. We want to help change their chances of survival.

In Red Eléctrica we develop and carry out numerous actions aimed at the protection and conservation of birdlife.

In 2013, Red Eléctrica signed a collaboration agreement with the Government of Aragon to be get to know more about and map the territories used by this species for foraging.

In 2011, the Government of the Balearic Islands launched the Bonelli’s Eagle reintroduction plan in Majorca, a project in which Red Eléctrica, in collaboration with other entities, has contributed to the release of juvenile eagles, transferred from other Spanish regions.

The project consists of the field installation of an energy storage system, specifically a lithium-ion prismatic battery with a power in the range of 1 MW and a capacity of at least 3 MWh.
