Disseminating knowledge on the electricity system

II Forum of the Clean Energy for EU Islands Initiative (Lanzarote)

Informative sessions on energy

Red Eléctrica contributes to the dissemination of knowledge regarding the functioning of the electricity system by encouraging participation in conferences and training/informative sessions.

In 2018, Red Eléctrica took part in the “II Forum of the Clean Energy Initiative for European Union Islands”, organized by the Ministry of the Economy, Industry, Commerce and Knowledge of the Government of the Canary Islands with the Secretary of the Initiative on behalf of the Directorate General forf Energy of the European Commission.

The meeting, which was held on 5 November on the island of Lanzarote, attracted more than 100 figures from around the world in the fields of politics, technology, energy, business, academia and society, such as the European Commission’s Director General for Energy, Dominique Ristori, the President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, the regional councillor for the Economy, Industry, Commerce and Knowledge, Pedro Ortega and the President of the Island Council of Lanzarote, Pedro San Ginés. Red Eléctrica was represented by Eva Pagán, General Manager of the Transmission Division.

This forum was framed by the political declaration signed by the European Commission in 2017 along with 14 member states who have islands in their territory, to advance the initiative Clean Energy for the Islands of the European Union. Its goal is to speed up energy transition for the more than 2,700 islands in Europe, reducing their reliance on fossil fuels, making better use of their own sources of renewable energy and advancing towards the adoption of more modern and innovative energy systems.
