Red Eléctrica Forest – The Hellín Forest (Albacete)

Recovery of degraded natural areas and offsetting greenhouse gas emissions through the planting of trees. Support for local training and employment.

Results
  • Reforestation of 111 hectares of land affected by forest fires and desertification processes. In order to do this, over 200,000 euros were invested, restoring the land and proceeding to plant 88,000 trees and shrubs, mostly Aleppo pines, Wild olive, Buckthorn, Black hawthorn, Kermes, Rosemary and other accompanying species.
  • 629 working days were created.
  • In January 2014, Red Eléctrica de España organised a series of informative sessions on environmental education in Hellin, in collaboration with the town council of the locality, coinciding with the “Red Eléctrica Forest” Week held from 15 to 18 January. The sessions, in which 315 volunteers participated, were targeted at school students and neighbours of Hellin and its districts, with the aim of raising awareness of the population on the importance of conservation of natural areas.
  • During 2015, re-planting actions were carried out for trees that did not take root.
