Red Eléctrica contributes to the dissemination of knowledge regarding the functioning of the electricity system by encouraging participation in conferences and training/informative sessions.

In 2019, Red Eléctrica supported the “Engineering and Business Summit 2019” (CIE 2019), which was organized by the Asociación Superior de Ingeniería de Andalucía (ASIAN), for the purpose of offering a space for discussion and debate in which companies, directors, professionals and experts take a closer look at the challenges raised by the global economy for engineering and business competitiveness.

The event was opened by the Secretary of State for Energy, José Domínguez Abascal, and Red Eléctrica took part in a panel on the “technical session on innovation and environmental impact in electrical infrastructures” and the “business session on energy transition and mobility”, held in June and October respectively.

Science Fair (Seville)

Red Eléctrica contributes to the dissemination of knowledge regarding the functioning of the electricity system by encouraging participation in conferences and training/informative sessions.

Red Eléctrica promoted the Science Fair organized by the Descubre Foundation and the Andalusian Society for the Promotion of Science (SADC) again in 2019. It also enjoyed the support of the Department of the Economy, Knowledge, Business and Universities of the Government of Andalusia, the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (Fecyt) and the Ministry of the Economy and Competitiveness, with the goal of promoting science in society.

The fair took place on 16, 17 and 18 May at Seville Exhibition and Conference Centre.

During this event, Red Eléctrica promoted the distribution and use of the educational game entreREDed to the more than 17000 visitors and students from the schools taking part.

The fair was declared an activity of exceptional public interest by the National Committee for the Commemoration of the V Centenary of the first expedition to sail around the world, led by Ferdinand Magellan y Juan Sebastián Elcano.

Red Eléctrica contributes to the dissemination of knowledge regarding the functioning of the electricity system by encouraging participation in conferences and training/informative sessions.

In March 2019, Red Eléctrica took part in the conferences organized by the European Union on Projects of Common Interest (PCI), which were held in Brussels.

The event gave promoters the opportunity to show their projects and share their experience on how to create a safe energy infrastructure for the future and the environment through the application of innovative technological solutions.

The “PCI Energy Days” also hosted the signing ceremony for the <em>Marine Grid Declaration</em>, an initiative that sets out a framework of principles to avoid and reduce the negative impact of submarine cables for the underwater environment. This declaration of principles was proposed by the Renewables Grid Initiative (RGI), a body that has brought together EU TSOs and NGOs since 2009 to encourage the development of a network that is open and respects the environment.

On 9 and 10 April 2019, Red Eléctrica organised a conference at its Barcelona offices with Renewables Grid Initiative (RGI) to share and assess the best practices for assimilating renewable energy in the Mediterranean region and around the globe.

The subject of the event centred on protecting the environment and integrating renewables in the marine setting, to inspire and support other regions at a time when they need ambitious plans to meet their climate and energy targets.

Other prominent topics at the conference were regulation, technical innovation and social commitments.

Closing session for the "Integra" project

Red Eléctrica contributes to the dissemination of knowledge regarding the functioning of the electricity system by encouraging participation in conferences and training/informative sessions.

The results of the “Integra” project were made public on 26 November 2019 at the Red Eléctrica Campus, in Tres Cantos (Madrid).

This innovation project was set up to display the demand requirements in areas of projects and maintenance, in collaboration with purchasing, control, operations and systems, using technology to optimise processes.

There were eleven sessions to present the results during the session, with project collaborators who explained to the stakeholders the transformation initiative to implement the company’s new integrated planning model.

Spanish Association for Evaluating Environmental Impact Seminars

Red Eléctrica contributes to the dissemination of knowledge regarding the functioning of the electricity system by encouraging participation in conferences and training/informative sessions.

In 2019, Red Eléctrica organized a series of seminars in collaboration with the Spanish Association for Evaluating Environmental Impact (AEEIA) as a way of creating spaces to analyse and share experiences about environmental evaluation from the perspectives of public administrations, business, universities and other bodies.

On 29 March 2019, the headquarters of IHOBE in Bilbao hosted the seminar “The repercussions of plans, programmes and projects on the Natura 2000 network in environmental impact evaluation documents”, in collaboration with the University of the Basque Country and the University College of Dublin. It dealt with important topics for evaluation the repercussions and new aspects of the Natura 2000 network.

Later, on 19 June 2019, there was the V edition of the Seminar on Environmental Evaluation Legislation in the Autonomous Communities, with the collaboration of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Sustainable Development of the Regional Government of Andalusia, which was held at the Red Eléctrica Campus, in Madrid.

Eleven autonomous communities were represented at this session, with more than fifty people attending. The act was also attended by the Sub-director General for Environmental Evaluation of the Ministry of Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Eugenio Domínguez Collado, and the Head of the Environmental Evaluation Service of the Government of Andalusia, Jorge Juan Feijóo. Red Eléctrica took part as a panel member, explaining the company’s methods for responding to new legislative demands.

Preview of the Electricity System Report 2019

On 12 March 2020, Red Eléctrica published its Spanish Electricity System Preliminary Report 2019, a year which has been a turning point in the transition of the peninsula’s electricity system towards a model based on sustainable energy. The event planned for presenting this report was cancelled in accordance with Red Eléctrica’s safety protocol and the health authorities’ recommendations for COVID-19.

The main details and figures in the Preliminary Report show the company’s contribution to energy transition and compliance with the integration of renewable sources set out in the Spanish National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan.

The chairwoman, Beatriz Corredor, stated the importance of continuous advances towards the decarbonisation of the economy as a company and as responsible citizens.

The Report on the Electricity System 2019 was published on 30 June 2020.

Sustainable Urban Mobility Congress (Bilbao)

In 2019, Red Eléctrica supported the first edition of the “Sustainable Urban Mobility Congress” (SUM Bilbao 2019), organized by Bilbao City Council to create a space for meetings and discussion about the future of mobility and its impact on achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

Over forty speakers came together on 20 and 21 February at the Palacio Euskalduna, including experts in urbanism, public administration, business and start-ups, technology centres and universities.

The result of this meeting, besides the exchange of experience and knowledge, was the Bilbao Declaration. This is a programme for action to bridge current mobility policy and practice with models aligned with the SDG and Agenda 2030.

3rd edition of the Renewables Congress 2019

On 3 and 4 December 2019, Red Eléctrica took part in the III National Congress on Renewable Energy, called “Renovables 19”, which was organized by the Association of Renewable Energy Companies (APPA) and held at the Mutua Madrileña Auditorium, in Madrid.

The sessions were attended by professionals from the energy and renewables sector, and the speakers included Tomás Domínguez, Manager of the System Operation Area, on the round table “The present and future development of renewables in Spain”, who explained the favourable circumstances and future growth of the renewables sector.

International Climate Change Conference "Change to Change"

Red Eléctrica contributes to the dissemination of knowledge regarding the functioning of the electricity system by encouraging participation in conferences and training/informative sessions.

Red Eléctrica provided support for the International Conference on Climate Change “Change to Change”, organized by the Department of the Environment, Regional Planning and Housing of the Government of the Basque Country, the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, The Foral Administration of Gipuzkoa and the Council of Donostia/San Sebastián, held between 6 and 8 March 2019.

As part of the United Nations’ “Momentum for Change” initiative and aligned with the Paris Treaty, the conference offered a cutting edge view of the challenges of climate change and presented a number of initiatives and actions that are making a difference to the environment.

The conference was also part of the “Climate Change Week” and set up a number of panels, including one for energy transition towards a sustainable economy which took renewable energy as its main focus. This panel included the General Manager of the System Operation Area, Miguel Duvison, to explain the new energy model.
