Electricity consumption of large companies increased 2.7% in July

The electricity consumption of large and medium-sized companies increased 2.7% in July compared with the same month the previous year, according to data from the Red Eléctrica Index (IRE). Broken down by sector, industrial consumption grew 1.9% and consumption in the services sector by 2.3%. The effects of seasonal and working patterns were factored in when calculating this data.

According to the IRE, in the last twelve months, the electricity consumption of these companies, once the effects of seasonal and working patterns were factored in, has increased by 2% over the same period last year. By sector, industry consumption rose by 3.2% and the services sector fell by 1.3%.

Compared to July 2014, the five activities with the highest electricity demand were the metallurgy industry which fell 2.9%, the chemical industry which fell 1.4%, the manufacturing industry for other non-metallic mineral products increased by 2.7%, the food industry grew 4.6% and the paper industry fell 1.8%.

Similarly, activities that contributed most to the growth in consumption of large companies have been: the collection, purification and distribution of water with an increase of 20.5%, the manufacturing of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (11.6%), the food industry (4.6%), the wholesale trade and commission-based trade, except motor vehicles and motorcycles (9%) and the manufacturing of rubber and plastic products (4.3%).
