The electricity consumption of large and medium-sized companies in the month of June increased 4% compared with the same month last year, according to data from the Red Eléctrica Index (IRE). Broken down by sector, industrial consumption grew 5.5%, and the services sector fell 1.9%. The effects of seasonal and working patterns were factored in when calculating this data.

According to the IRE, in the past twelve months, electricity consumption of these companies, after factoring in seasonal and working patterns, grew by 2.6% compared with the same period the previous year (year-on-year). By sector, industry consumption grew 4.6% and the services sector fell 2.4%.

The five activities with the highest electricity consumption have increased their demand this month with respect to June 2013: the metallurgy industry rose 3.2%, the chemical industry rose 2%, the manufacturing industry for other non-metallic mineral products increased 3.6%, the food industry 6.7% and the paper industry 1.4%.

Similarly, activities that contributed most to the growth in consumption of large companies have been: the metallurgy industry with an increase of 3.2%, the food industry (6.7%), transportation overland and via pipeline (22.6%), the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (10.6%) and the manufacture of rubber and plastic products (6.9%).
