In the month of December, gross demand for electrical energy on the Spanish peninsula was 21,655 GWh, representing a fall of 7.4% with respect to the same month in 2010. After factoring in the effects of seasonal and working patterns, the drop in consumption on the Peninsula was 4.9%.
This year, as a whole, gross demand was 255,176 GWh, which was 2.1% lower than in 2010. Once the effects of seasonal and working patterns were factored in, consumption was 1.2% down on last year.

During December, energy production obtained from renewable energy sources represented 34.1% of the total generation, 4.9 percentage points down on that registered in December 2010. During this entire year, renewable energy generation represented 32.8% of the total, whilst in the last year the figure was 35.4%.
In the month of December, 54% of electricity production came from technologies which produce zero CO2 emissions.
