- Los trabajos de sellado del enlace han finalizado hoy 16 de octubre
After nine days of work, Red Eléctrica de España and its Moroccan counterpart, L'Office National d'Electricité et de l'Eau Potable (ONEE), have today concluded the sealing of the damaged cable that is part of the second link with Morocco. Red Eléctrica carried out the sealing work in a coordinated manner with ONEE, as the interconnection link is jointly owned in equal shares by both companies.
After completing the sealing work, the Internal Maritime Plan of the interconnection was deactivated and the Spanish maritime authorities, the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the other concerned authorities were informed. As of this moment, all efforts are focused on repairing the link, whose work is being advanced and will be carried out in the coming months.
The fault occurred on 11 September in one of the cables (specifically cable number 7) that that make up the two circuits that comprise the electricity interconnection which connects Spain with Morocco. The fault was located 15.4 km from the coast of Spain at a depth of 490 metres in Moroccan waters.
