Red Eléctrica de España has successfully restored the electricity supply system in Tenerife in its entirety. The electricity supply on the island was brought back into normal operating service at 10:15 p.m. (local time in the Canary Islands).
The electrical incident in Tenerife, which began at 1:11 p.m., and which has caused what is known as a ‘Zero Energy’ situation, was due to a technical failure that happened in the Granadilla substation in the south of the island.
“Immediately after the incident occurred, Red Eléctrica activated the power restoration protocol which is specifically foreseen for these types of situations. Over the last few hours, we have worked in a coordinated way with the generating facility and the electricity distributor to fully restore the electricity supply. REE will analyse the causes of this incident that has resulted in an zero energy situation and deeply regrets any inconvenience it may have caused for the island of Tenerife,” said Ainara Irigoyen, the regional delegate for Red Eléctrica de España in the Canary Islands.
