Red Eléctrica de España will restore the electricity supply in Menorca within a maximum period of 48 hours, despite the adverse weather conditions on the island and the difficulties posed by the orography of the area which are making it difficult to travel to the areas affected by rain and wind storms.
The first electricity line to come back into operation is the Dragonera-Mercadal line (15.5 kilometres) and, in parallel, progress is being made in rebuilding the towers of the Dragonera-Ciudadela line (35.7 kilometres).
On the other hand, and in order to minimise waiting times for service restoration, since yesterday the Company has supported Endesa so that emergency generators can be deployed in order to restore power to consumers via the electricity distribution network.
A team of more than 40 people has been working since last night to remove the damaged towers and all power restoration tasks have has been accelerated since the early hours of the morning thanks to the deployment, in record time, of the cranes needed to complete all works. Also, first thing in the morning a helicopter with the capacity to carry heavy loads was sent to undertake inspection and hoisting tasks and thus finish the maintenance of the line.
Red Eléctrica is mobilising all the necessary manpower and technical resources to restore damaged assets in the shortest period of time possible. Round the clock shifts have been established and several teams have been coordinated and are working together in parallel, both for the dismantling of damaged towers and the assembly of towers as well as to conduct the consolidation works in the area. All actions are of course being carried out while ensuring the utmost safety of all personnel involved.
Red Eléctrica is keeping the authorities informed in a timely manner and is coordinated with all the public administrations and services involved (General Administration of the State, Regional and Local Administrations and Civil Protection and Emergency services).
