Red Eléctrica consolidates innovation partnerships with six Spanish universities and technology centres
  • Establishes a new collaboration model that promotes joint research between the Company's professionals and these entities

Red Eléctrica de España has signed six collaboration agreements this year with different Spanish universities and technology centres that consolidate a direct cooperation framework between the academia & technical sectors and the Company for the development of innovation projects aimed at improving the management of electricity system.

These new partnerships have arisen after having analysed the various recurring collaborations that Red Eléctrica has had with these entities since 2008 in initiatives of great economic importance and in technological areas in which these centres have become a reference and are highly regarded.

According to this proposal, Red Eléctrica will work together with the Instituto de Ingeniería del Conocimiento (IIC), which has among its partners the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid; the Fundación para el Fomento de la Innovación Industrial (FFII), created by the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid in collaboration with the Ministry for the Ecological Transition; the Fundación TECNALIA Research & Innovation of the Basque Country; the Instituto Tecnológico de la Energía (ITE), promoted by the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia and the Generalitat Valenciana through the IVACE; the Asociación de Investigación y Cooperación Industrial de Andalucía (AICIA), a technology centre linked to the School of Engineering of the Universidad de Sevilla, and the Centro de Innovación Tecnológica en Convertidores Estáticos y Accionamientos (CITCEA-UPC)  of the Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña.

In order to carry out this initiative, Red Eléctrica will invest 2.4 million euros over a period of five years. This investment will be allocated for the development of innovation projects linked to the needs of the Company arising from the scenario associated to a more efficient and sustainable new energy model.

Moreover, the management strategy regarding partnerships with new entities for the development of the Company's innovation strategy will be detailed in the coming months.

These partnerships strengthen the Company's sustainability commitment to promoting a culture of innovation that generates shared value thanks to the collaboration with national research centres. Through these partnerships, the Company seeks to encourage and promote the incorporation of new technologies, solutions and ways of working as a lever for growth in order to be able to respond to future challenges, anticipating and adapting to global trends derived from the new energy model.
