We are a global operator of essential infrastructure
Red Eléctrica de España has commissioned the new 66 kilovolt (kV) Callejones substation and the connecting lines to the existing grid. The facility, located in the municipality of San Bartolomé, on the island of Lanzarote, is a major reinforcement for the transmission grid in the area and for the security of the supply of the Lanzarote-Fuerteventura electricity system, which additionally facilitates the integration of renewable energy planned in the area, mainly wind.
The Callejones substation, designed with the most modern and reliable technology, is located inside a building and, for its integration into the grid, double circuit lines (407 metres in length) have been built to connect it to the 66 kV San Bartolomé substation and to the 66 kV Punta Grande-Mácher line. The total investment of the project has amounted to 7.8 million euros.
The facility will allow the evacuation of the possible wind generation foreseen in Lanzarote, some 27.6 megawatts, and evidences the firm commitment of Red Eléctrica de España to comply in a timely manner with its commitments for the implementation of the Wind Energy Development Plan in the Canary Islands. In order to continue advancing in the achievement of the new energy model, installing more renewable energy and maximising its production possibilities, it will be necessary to undertake the rest of the planned grid developments, especially the new 132 kV Lanzarote-Fuerteventura double-circuit axis.
The commissioning of this facility was made possible thanks to the collaboration and coordination of all the public administrations involved.
