Redeia, Fundación Renovables, and Renewables Grid Initiative present ‘Grids for Renewables,’ an initiative for active societal engagement
  • NGOs, businesses, and stakeholders discuss a new model of territorial engagement for a fair deployment of energy transition infrastructure
  • This model, which has already yielded positive results in other European countries, aligns with Redeia’s DNA, while always fostering dialogue with communities

This Wednesday in Madrid, Fundación Renovables, Renewables Grid Initiative, and Redeia presented an alliance between businesses and the non-profit sector to promote a fair deployment of the infrastructure necessary for the energy transition. The initiative is built on fostering social cohesion and dialogue.

The three organisations have been developing this innovative project for a year now, aimed at strengthening and expanding channels for listening to local communities—the people who live in areas where electricity infrastructure is installed. This type of alliance has already achieved significant success in other European countries. It brings together RGI’s international expertise, the trust and grassroots reach of an NGO like Fundación Renovables, and Redeia’s extensive experience in the field.

During its first year, the alliance has focused on the socio-economic analysis and assessment of a key project included in the current Electrical planning framework. The study gathered a wide range of indicators, including demographic variables and social, organisational, and economic factors. It also involved insights into key stakeholders in the region. Subsequently, with Fundación Renovables’ involvement, the initial assessment was validated through on-site engagement, incorporating additional relevant information.

The alliance now aims to consolidate all the knowledge gained into a methodology that can measure the benefits of active listening and dialogue—led by an NGO—for ensuring the success of the profound transformation that must be achieved now more than ever: shifting our energy model as swiftly as possible while respecting our natural capital and fostering social well-being and progress.

‘Grids for Renewables’ is a priority project within Redeia’s Integrated Impact Strategy—a new operational framework that involves all business areas and geographic regions. This strategy ensures that Redeia's infrastructure deployment aligns fully with its sustainability commitments. Learn more here (link to EIIR webpage).

The event was led by Redeia’s Chairwoman, Beatriz Corredor; RGI’s CEO, Antonella Battaglini; and Fundación Renovables’ Vice President, Juan Castro-Gil. It featured a panel discussion moderated by political scientist Cristina Monge, with participation from numerous NGO representatives, institutional organisations, businesses and communicators.
