- A new 320 square metre building will be built to offer an intermediate level diploma in electricity and electronics with a curriculum adapted to the needs of the business sector in both Mequinenza and Bajo Cinca
The Plenary Hall of the Town Hall of Mequinenza (Zaragoza) was the scene today for the signing ceremony of a collaboration agreement between Red Eléctrica de España and the local Town Hall to finance the "Improvement and expansion of the Santa Agatoclia Professional Training Centre in Mequinenza" project. The signing ceremony was attended by José Ignacio Lallana, Red Eléctrica delegate in Aragón, and Antonio Sanjuán, the town Mayor, who were accompanied by Rosina Sillué, Director of the Centre, Débora Bravo, Councillor for Education and Sports, and Domingo Otero, Councillor for Town Planning.
This will allow an intermediate level diploma in electricity and electronics to be offered in the town for the 2022-2023 academic year, with a curriculum adapted to the needs of the business sector of the local town and of Bajo Cinca with specific training in electro-mechanics. The agreement is the culmination of three years of intense work in close collaboration with the Department of Education, Culture and Sport of the Government of Aragon, local companies and the Centre. As a result, the company will contribute €200,000 of the nearly €550,000 needed to cover the cost of the construction of a 320 square metre building next to the current one, in the playground. The site will house two workshops with a capacity for 60 students.
Antonio Sanjuán highlighted "the involvement and sensitivity" of Red Eléctrica with the territory and specifically in a project "linked to the future of the town that will facilitate training and job placement". He assured that this is a "strategic investment for our young people and our companies" as the former will be able to continue training in the town and the latter will have qualified labour to incorporate into their production processes "which will result in a settled local population in the territory and, who knows, maybe the arrival of new companies at the Riols Industrial Estate (PIR)".
It is an action which, as underlined by the Red Eléctrica delegate, José Ignacio Lallana, "brings a lot of added value to the territory and its expectations" and is part of the Company's commitment to sustainability with the territory where its facilities are located. In the case of Mequinenza, with the commissioning of the 400 kilovolt "Almendrales" substation, in the known area as "Las Carrascas", included in the 2021-2026 Electricity Transmission Grid Plan recently approved by the Spanish Government. This infrastructure will allow the energy generated by the renewable energy projects to be installed both in the town and in neighbouring municipalities to be poured into the electricity transmission grid in Aragon.
This is Red Eléctrica's second collaboration with the municipality, following the previous agreement signed in November 2017 and which will soon culminate in the installation of a bird watching hut in Aiguabarreig which will increase the attractive of municipality in terms of ornithological tourism, in what is one of the largest river confluences of the Iberian Peninsula, that of the Segre, Cinca and Ebro rivers.
The collaboration between Red Eléctrica de España and the Town Hall of Mequinenza, embodied in these two projects, represents a clear commitment to energy transition, to a settled local population in the territory and to the use of local resources through sustainable tourism.
