Hacendera solar, the first community self-consumption model

Collaboration with municipalities to promote social well-being. Construction and refurbishment of facilities for social purposes.

Red Eléctrica maintains its commitment with local communities where its facilities are located, through actions that contribute to improvements in the well-being of people and their municipalities, by supporting the protection of basic needs, fostering sport and healthy lifestyle habits, and the conservation of their culture.

In 2019, Red Electrica along with the Megara Energía cooperative and Castilfrío de la Sierra Town Council, created the first rural energy community named “Hacendera Solar”, to equip the town’s municipal buildings with photovoltaic installations that will provide energy savings and a reduction in greenhouse gases.

This pilot scheme enables collective energy self-consumption and entails a participative model that involves the local population. In addition, it is a benchmark for performing similar projects in other Spanish rural regions.
