Effect of light pollution on migratory flows of invertebrates in the Strait of Gibraltar

Research, develop and evaluate the effectiveness of different types of outdoor lighting and its effects on the movements and activity of the fauna in the area.

Geographic scope

The Strait of Gibraltar (Cadiz)

Results
  • Identify species, particularly invertebrates, which may be affected by light pollution in the area of the Strait of Gibraltar, with particular emphasis on migratory species.
  • Analyse the differential impact of alternative lighting systems as well as the projection of light beams on these species.
  • Identify the effect of these different systems on the astronomical light pollution.
  • Evaluate the different options from the point of view of energy savings and CO2 emissions.
